Department of Community Health Sciences
The department undertakes to impart training in all subjects which include primary health care, demography, epidemiology, biostatistics, occupational health, communicable diseases, hospital administration and miscellaneous subject which are of importance from a preventive medicine point of view. In addition visits of the students are arranged to water and sewerage works, factories and major hospitals in the city. The subject is taught from 1st year to 4th year. Students also prepare collection of clippings from news papers, magazine and internet regarding current public health problem; viz road traffic accident (RTA), and new emerging diseases like SARS, bird flu etc. The primary health care is offered to the target population to develop a level of confidence and trust. Students are also expected to complete a number of projects on communicable /non communicable diseases, maternal and child health and other pressing problems of the community. Students are educated about the role of WHO, UNICEF and the impact of international collaboration in order to achieve diseases control at the national and international levels. The necessary learning material of WHO, UNICEF is also available in the Library for consultation. The final examination is taken only in 4th year. During summer vacations students are encouraged to carry out surveys about prevalence of communicable, non - communicable diseases and environment hazards. Each student is expected to complete a research oriented project before the final examination in the fourth year. Primary health care is offered to the target population to develop a level of confidence and trust.
