Admission Requirements

Admission Policy

Admission is granted to first year class of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS). The Admission is offered on the basis of Academic Records and Admission Test to be conducted by PMC. The admission will be open to all purely on merit. The number of seats available for admission to the first year MBBS academic session 2020 - 21 will be 100 students. BDS academic session 2020 - 21 will be for 50 students.

Where and How to Apply

  • The information, prospectus and college registration form can be obtained from the College reception at a cost of Rs. 3000.
  • Completed application form together with the required supporting documents and non-refundable registration fee must be submitted by the date notified by the University.
  • Applications received without fee will not be processed. Once acknowledged, an application cannot be withdrawn. Application fee may only be paid through cash or bank draft/pay order only. No cheques will be entertained. in the name of Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences. Drawn on bank having a branch in Karachi.
  • It is the sole responsibility of the applicant to comply with all the instructions given on the Application form and submit it before the due date. Incomplete applications and applications received after the last date will not be processed.

Equivalence Criteria of Foreign Examinations

For the purpose of determining merit, the candidates having passed Cambridge High School Certificate Examination with Biology, Physics and Chemistry at Principal level or the General Certificate of Education (A level) with Biology, Physics and Chemistry, the grades obtained in these examination will be equated as follows:

  • Grade A
  • Grade B
  • Grade C
  • Grade D
  • Grade E

The equivalence certificate in this regard can only be issued by IBCC Islamabad who are the competent authority to issue an equivalence certificate. All candidates before applying for admission may obtain an equivalence certificate. Students applying on foreign seats should either appear in the entance examination or obtain a score of min. 550 makes in each of the above subject in SAT II examination.

Proficiency in English

The medium of instruction at the College is English. Candidates are required to demonstrate reasonably good proficiency in this language. However, those who are admitted because of excellent performance in the test but are not up to the required standard in English should improve their language.

Submission of Application Pack for Admission

  • Candidates for admission must submit their applications neat and complete in all respects in their own hand writing in block letters. The registration pack may be obtained from the Reception Counter of the College on payment of Rs. 3000/- for all students,
  • The candidates applying for admission must attach two attested copies of the following:
    • Secondary School Certificate and Marks Sheet/ GCE O' level with equivalence certificate
    • Higher Secondary School Marks Sheet (Pre Medical)/ GCE A' levels with certificate.
    • Marks Sheet or Grade Certificate of other Examinations.
    • NTS/ University Entry Test Result or score
    • Submission of original document is mandatory at the time of admission.
  • Application form and the documents attached with the registration form shall not be returned.
  • Incomplete registration form shall not be considered.
  • The registration shall be rejected in case the candidate is found guilty of suppression or misrepresentation of material facts.

NTS / PMC National MDCAT

An admission test will be conducted equivalent to the standard of intermediate science (HSC) Examination in the subjects of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English, General Knowledge and basic Mathematics.

The admission test for the 2020-21 Batch shall be conducted by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), all candidates wishful to join Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for girls must appear in the National MDCAT exam of PMC.

Admission Criteria

A candidate holding F.sc (Pre-Medical) with minimum unadjusted 65% marks from Pakistan or equivalent marks as certified by Inter Board Chairman Committee (IBCC) is eligible for admission. Candidate has to qualify N-MDCAT examination held by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) for getting admission in Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls-Karachi. The Passing marks for the MDCAT examination shall be 60% marks.

Admission Criteria

A Student who does not hold a Pakistani nationality, or holds a dual nationality or is an Overseas or a non-resident Pakistani citizen and having obtained their H.S.S.C or equivalent 12th grade qualification from outside Pakistan shall for purpose of admission be deemed a “Foreign Student”. The Admission of foreign student shall be strictly on the basis of merit and no exemption or special quota shall be created for Foreign Students.
Provided as an exemption in the session 2021 a Foreign Student may use results of SAT II exam in the subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Physics/Math as an alternative to MDCAT. The result of the student in SAT II shall be equated with the scores of MDCAT by using a weightage of:

  • Biology: 40%
  • Chemistry: 35%
  • Physics/Maths: 25%

Entry Test

A candidate must appear in the entry test conducted by the Pakistan Medical commission (PMC), for getting admission in Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls-Karachi in MBBS/BDS 1st Year. The passing marks for the MDCAT examination shall be 60%.

Interview

Student who appears on the National Merit List issued by Pakistan Medical Commission shall be required to contact the college for seeking admission, subject to an interview as may be conducted by Sir Syed College of Medical Sciences for Girls-Karachi and marks for such interview added to the student’s merit weightage. The college may at its discretion elect not to interview a student and process admissions on the basis of the National Merit List.
A student having accepted an offer of admission shall be required to deposit College fee and required documents as confirmation and acceptance of admission.

Documents Required

According to the rules of the College the following documents will be submitted with registration form and shall be retained invariably and permanently by the College

  • Matric marksheet, Matric Certificate (photocopy) , GCE 'O' Level grade sheet and IBCC equivalence certificate.
  • HSC (Pre-Medical) Examination marks sheet and/or Marks Sheet of qualifying examination. GEC 'A' Level grade sheet and IBCC equivalence certificate.
  • National MDCAT Score issued by PMC
  • Migration Certificate in original, if applicable.
  • Photocopies of all other documents required by the College.

The above documents shall not be made available to the students concerned either in original or Photostat. However, in exceptional cases the Photostat of the required documents can be provided to the candidates on submission of their application on the prescribed form on payment of Rs. 50/- for each document on the notice of 7 days subject to availability of the documents.
